Pamoja Climate Resilience Project MOU Signing

In a groundbreaking move for climate action and child development, Pioneer Child Development Programme (PCDP) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Laikipia County Government. This exciting new initiative is set to drive a paradigm shift in how we address climate change by integrating children and schools into the heart of environmental policy and action.

The Power of Partnership

In a major stride towards enhancing climate resilience in Laikipia, the County Government and the Pioneer Child Development Programme Official-PCDP formalized a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 27th August 2024. This partnership aims to address climate change by not only advocating for crucial policy operationalization but by also actively involving children and schools in the process. The MoU was signed by PioneerCDP Executive Director John King'ori and Ms. Leah Njeri, Laikipia County CECM Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change.

This collaboration is set to drive forward critical climate change initiatives including the finalization of the Laikipia County Climate Change Act and the facilitation of the Water Services Bill 2021 to be implemented under the Pamoja Project.

Furthermore, the partnership places a strong emphasis on capacity building, particularly among smallholder farmers, marginalized communities and children. By equipping these groups with essential knowledge and tools, the initiative seeks to empower them for effective climate action.

Focused on both mitigation and adaptation strategies, this partnership aims to fortify Laikipia's climate change efforts, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable future for its residents.

Pioneer Child Development Programme, renowned for its innovative approach to nurturing young minds together with Laikipia County Government, a key player in regional climate policy are joining forces to create a robust framework that empowers the next generation of environmental stewards. This will ensure that everyone is engaged in addressing climate change impacts in the region through public participation and ensuring social inclusion of vulnerable groups including children, youths and people with disability. This collaboration is grounded in the belief that children, who will inherit the planet we leave behind, must be at the forefront of climate action.

Looking Ahead

With the MOU now in place, PCDP aims to advocate for the operationalization of the Laikipia County climate change funds regulation.
